Final Animation

Here is the final animation for the final major project. The process of creating this animation was a very long one but the one but I am thrilled with how the final film turned out as it not only looks how I envisioned it in my head, but it also exceeded my expectations of what I thought I’d be capable of creating in the time I had. The animation was created using the software rough animator, which I mentioned previously, but this software was really comfortable to work with and having never used digital software to animate before I found myself instantly using the software with confidence and I think the results looked very professional. My intentions for this animation were to create a simple animation which embraced the over-the-top wackiness of slapstick shows such as Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes and Ren and Stimpy and I think I managed to capture the essence of these through my choice of style as well as the over the top and expressive character animation. I think something else which exceeded my expectations for my final film is the music I got made specifically. I decided that I wanted a jazz like soundtrack for my final film as I felt it was reminiscent of the shows, I was inspired by but it also created a very upbeat energy which went alongside the animated visuals very nice and brought the whole thing together. In my animation, I think I have successfully created something that feels professional and authentic to animation from the 50s and 90s and I think one of the main elements which added to this was my choice of filter. The Original animation that I created felt to clean in my opinion and I wanted it to have the visual as though it was created traditionally on cel animation, so to combat this I went onto premier pro and used the lumetri colour tool on my footage to alter the vibrancy, colour channels, contrast, and sharpness so that it gave the overall piece a much warmer and soft appearance. Old cartoon would have been made on cel and each frame would be captured via a camera, which led to imperfections in the overall appearance of the animation, and this is something I think looks nice and just adds a bit of movement to very static shots. To create this effect, I added a grain filter to my footage and increased the vibrancy and have it animated to create a noise to the overall short. What this did was create the imperfect look which mirrored that of older cartoons and I think it helped to make the film look less clean and as if it is something that could’ve existed since the 90s. I also played around with the colour channels, this create a slight alteration between the background and the black line art creating a cel like animation look which further added to the authenticity of the concept. In terms of the story, all though very simple it allowed me to be very expressive in my animation and really focus on the slapstick theme I was going for. The way in which I intertwined violence and comedy with this very gag-driven story allowed me to implement the violence whilst also giving it more weight and purpose through its link to the narrative. As I learnt from my research, violence, and comedy (slapstick) works best when in unison with gag driven and visual humour. I think I have worked slapstick comedy in a very energetic and expressive manner which I’m happy with and the influences that I looked at in my research phase really helped in the creation of this final animation
